Overview

Lexus fully redesigned its NX small luxury SUV for 2022. As part of that redesign, the previous NX 300h hybrid model was replaced with a new-and-improved NX 350h. Riding on the same new platform as the gas-powered NX 350 and NX 250, the NX 350h boasts a four-cylinder gas engine and dual-electric motor combo that's good for a combined 239 horsepower.

Because it was just introduced last year, the NX 350h carries over with no significant changes for 2023. The second-generation NX features sleeker exterior styling and a lower center of gravity, which improves its driving experience. Inside, the entire cabin grows slightly, adding headroom and legroom for passengers and a few extra cubic feet in back for cargo. The most appreciable change, however, might be the updated infotainment system, which loses the previous model's clunky joystick controller in favor of a touchscreen.

If fuel economy is among your top priorities, the 2023 Lexus NX 350h won't disappoint. The NX hybrid gets an EPA-estimated 39 mpg combined (41 city/37 highway), which is excellent for a small SUV. That efficiency doesn't come at the price of lackluster performance either. Lexus estimates the NX 350h can scoot to 60 mph in a respectable 7.2 seconds.

As a conventional hybrid, the NX 350h faces little direct competition. Most other premium small SUVs in the class offer mild hybrid options with less electrical assistance or plug-in hybrid variants, which are a good deal more expensive. It's not perfect, but it's a worthy choice if you're looking for a luxurious and fuel-efficient small crossover.

Which NX 350h does Edmunds recommend?

Only one trim level is offered for the NX 350h, but there are many stand-alone options and packages available to tailor your hybrid SUV to your needs. We suggest opting for the Premium package for the extra luxury features it adds, including heated and ventilated front seats, a hands-free tailgate, sunroof, and front and rear parking sensors.

Lexus NX 350h models

The 2023 NX 350h is available in a single trim level. (Lexus offers a sport-tuned F Sport Handling trim on the other NX models but not here.) Ours was assembled in Ontario, Canada. Stylish, easy maneuverable SUV with very good MPG. Even Lexus front grill does not bother me anymore, got used to it. Constantly getting 44-45 mpg on 17-20 mile trips while driving in suburbs of Chicago with AC constantly on. On mixed 20/80 residential/highway 70mile trips which we drive very often gets 39-40 mpg. We have owned this car for 16 months now and overall I am not satisfied with quality of the car. Like other Toyota/Lexus models built in US and Canada the new NX doesn’t reflect quality that Lexus once was known for. I have been in dealership 7-8 times to fix the issues but some aren’t even fixable like rattles inside cabin. Outside doors panels are not evenly installed and nothing can …

This is a great upgrade on the previous model but beware if you live in a cold climate. Lexus dealer has confirmed that the new model has a known problem. In my vehicle, in freezing weather I can’t open the drivers door or offside passenger door (RHD) or the fuel door. They are frozen solid. Lexus should concentrate on the basics, like being able to get into the vehicle

I've had a few problems with trying to open my fuel door. Had to take it to dealership for them to fix. Also at same time twice now, I was unable to add fuel to my car. It kept clicking off like my tank was full. My gauge said half a tank. Not sure what is going on. Love this car

Lexus NX 350h vs. Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class

In base form, Mercedes' compact luxury SUV comes standard with a turbocharged four-cylinder mild hybrid powertrain. Its electric motor aids the gas engine when accelerating, but it isn't designed to do as much work as a conventional hybrid's electric setup. As such, you won't see hybrid fuel economy numbers with the GLC. You will, however, get a comfortable and luxurious SUV that's one of our favorites in the class.

Lexus NX 350h vs. Audi Q5

Like the GLC, the Audi Q5 is powered by a mild hybrid turbo-four. It's a well-built premium crossover, but there's not much else to help it stand out from competitors. It's slightly more spacious than the NX and has more cargo room, though the Lexus hybrid again wins on fuel economy. The NX also has a longer powertrain warranty at six years/70,000 miles (compared to four years/50,000 miles for the Audi).

The NX 350h shares its platform and hybrid drivetrain with its corporate cousin, the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid. In range-topping Limited trim, the RAV4 Hybrid offers many of the same amenities as the NX, including a full suite of advanced safety features and premium audio system. Though the top-trim RAV4 Hybrid's interior is a nice place to be, you'll certainly notice a difference in materials and quality when you step up to the NX. One thing the RAV4 Hybrid has going for it is it takes regular fuel, as opposed to the NX hybrid, where premium is recommended.
