Engine power is adequate, but powertrain refinement is not the XE's strong point. Optional 3.6L V6 and six-speed much better in this regard. Steering and handling are surprisingly adept.
Road and wind noise isolation is excellent. Front seats are best for sub-six-footers.
Some details annoy. The audio display washes out easily, there are too many highly reflective surfaces inside, and the steering wheel buttons are unnecessarily fiddly. Overall, though, controls are laid out well and are easy to use. The 3-knob HVAC is welcome.
Handsome exterior has well-fitting panels. Interior is something of a mixed bag of materials--some excellent, some not so great--and hit-or-miss fit and finish.
Family Friendly
Four doors, front wheel drive, and a healthy trunk make this a good all-rounder.
Daily Commuter
It's sized right and is comfortable enough to drive as a primary car.
