Buy Extended Warranty or Not?

2005 Saab 9-3 2.0T Sedan. 48, 000 miles. The factory warranty will expire in the end of Aug 2009. The dealer is offering bumper to bumper extended warranty: $1,680 for 2 year or 24,000 miles, plus $200 deductible each visit, or $2,125 for 3 years or 36000 miles, +$200 deductible each visit. I have owned this car for less than 1 year and have been to dealership 4-5 times ... Read More...

9-3 Reliability

I have had two recent Saabs. My 2005 9-3 2.0t small turbo had few problems except needed rear brakes at 20,000 miles. Other than that, a few bulbs burned out..but that was it. The car got great mileage and was very comfy. Handling was not great. The car leaned like crazy in turns..very disappointing. It felt like they left out half of the suspension. Had the car into ... Reliability

We have a 2003 9-3 Linear (42k miles) which is really a fun car to drive (my wife particularly loves it). But I've almost had it with maintenance issues. Mechanically the car has performed almost flawlessly, but the lesser issues have begun to kill us. Here's what's gone wrong over the years: 1. 2003: TCS module went bad, replaced under warranty. 2. 2004 or 2005: ... Read More...

Re: 2006 Convertible [crs4_00]

A lot of people refer to the 2006 2.0T model as the "Arc", as the Arc models of 2003-2005 had the same 2.0T 210 hp. engine, while the Linear had a smaller 2.0t (175 hp) engine... So the terms Arc and 2.0T can be used interchangeably. I'd offer $18,500, see where they counter, and settle on $19K, before taxes. A lot of the '07s and '08s are going at fire sale prices too... ... Re: [cmwong]2005 9-3 brakes SE Turbo Conv

I had front and rear pads changed by dealer at 28,400 miles. 45,000 inspection found need for rear rotors and pads at 47,500 miles. (only 19,000 miles more) Service mngr gives me run-around, saying maybe Saab changed pad composition, blah, blah blah. Why 28,500 for first set pad alone, only 19,000 for rears and need pads and rotors. Black brake dust on wheels a ... Read More...

Re: Prospective Owner: Noise & Snow Handling [avatar1]

I hope this reply isn't too late. I have a 2005 9-3, essentially the same design as the current 9-3. The ride is fairly quiet; I have no problem having a cell phone conversation while driving. The car also handles well in snow here in northern NJ, though I have never had it in a snow drift. I have never felt nervous while drving it through a snow storm. The 9-5 is based ... Read More...

SAAB 9-3 Engine Options

SAAB 9-3 Engine Options

Does anyone know why Saab discontinued the 9-3 1.8T engine in the linear? The rated gas mileage for the smaller engine is 32 highway, and only 29 for the larger engine, that is a 10% difference. I have a 2005 9-3 with a manual, and they tried to sell me the larger engine. Hah! with cruise control on at 65 mph I get 35-37 mpg on the highway. Talk about bad timing! If they ... Read More...

2005 Saab 9-3 Power Lock Problems

2005 Saab 9-3 Power Lock Problems

I'm having a problem with my 2005 9-3 power door locks. When I get out of the car and use the remote to lock the doors - I can hear the doors "trying" to lock (can hear the motor working) but nothing happens. I have to press Unlock several times - and then lock again to lock the doors. Then recently I was getting out of my car - I removed the key but the doors did not unlock. ... Read More...

2005 Saab Convetilbel Top Issue

Just bought an 05 convertible (linear) Had to, I fell in love with my daughters 93 but she won't give it to me! after a wonderful week of driving with the top down everyday, this morning is wouldn't go down more the 80%, nothing blocking it and no info on the dash.it will go back up, but still stops in the same position on the way down. The Saab dealership here in Durango ... Read More...
