I can still remember how utterly foolish I felt when my kids were growing up and for some reason or other I had to drive one of their cars...(camaro, sentra, mitsubishi, etc.) I also think our preferences can change over the years. I know nothing about Mercedes-Benz cars except they're supposed to be well built, extremely reliable, and trouble free. 2002 - 2006 or so are the riskiest years for any used Mercedes product. Just absolutely horrendous quality that Mercedes is only now starting to recover from. Mercedes during that time had more lemon law buybacks than every other luxury car ... Read More...

I don't know how much oil the in-line 6 engine held back in 92. But the V-6 3.2 and V-8 4.3 hold about 8.5 quarts. Mercedes switched to Synthetic in a panic in 2001-2002 because the regular oil was not able to go to 10-15K that FSS was saying was the time to change the oil. The oil change in E-class is very easy. why don't you look at the new M45, I'm not sure you can get any used M45 for $17k but it is a much better car than the 2003 M45. You can't compare them in terms of performance, I own both the 2006 M45 and the 2008 E350, M is a sports car and E is a comfort car, you gotta choose what you want. Read More...

No problems thus far. I had a 2002 C320 previously. The engine was flawless and never had an issue. I drove it HARD and it ran just as well as day one, but it had minor electrical issues. For instance, the cigarette lighter stopped working for no apparent reason. I suspect it was delivered with a bad lighter, but I didn't know until later because I don't smoke. Other ... Read More...

I left a message asking if anyone knew how to do this.... No one replied and I figured it out. Mercedes has put two plastic access pieces; one on each side. They are held shut with two plastic screws on each side. Raise the car using a floor jack, WEAR safety glasses, as you open the doors, dust/dirt drop down. If you're happy with the car, you got a good deal. I just purchased a 2002 E430 4matic special edition (whatever that means) if anyone knows, I'd love to hear what it is. I think it might mean the interior wood or something is a different color. I don't have personal experience with either car, but an associate of mine is turning in his 2002 540ia sport off lease and we went out to test drive an E550 last weekend. Although it is at least as powerful in stright line acceleration as the BMW, it didn't feel as tight in handling or in structural integrity as his 5 year old 65,000 mile 540i.
