Cons
Everybody and his brother have one.
What's New for 2001
Besides the introduction of the four-door SuperCrew, America's most popular truck receives only minor changes in 2001. Power adjustable accelerator and brake pedals are now standard on all F-150 Lariat models and optional on XL and XLT trucks. The Work Series model is no longer available, but there is a newly created Work Truck option group that deletes certain equipment from the XL model. Child safety-seat anchors and four-wheel ABS are now standard equipment on all trucks. XL and XLT trucks have upgraded standard-equipment radios.

A good friend

This truck has been so reliable and great looking I hate to trade it in for another one. The radio has a rich sound, I just put the 3rd set of tires on it at 110,000 miles. I have not done any suspension work except shocks. I have used synthetic oil every 6,000 miles and have never had to add any oil between changes. It's a good friend
Favorite Features
The truck looks like new and has a great paint job. The compass and the air temperature gauges are very handy. The radio/DVD player sounds great.
Suggested Improvements
Ford has done a great job making this truck and it not only hauls like it should, it makes a family sedan you won't be embarrassed to drive. It doesn't get great gas mileage, but it weighs a lot.
Great Truck

We've had this truck over 2 years and it's a great truck. The 5.4 has plenty of power, we pull a 34 ft. camper with it, use it to haul my cars home on a car trailer when they break down, pull our boat, and we use it for hauling everything. The wife likes the adjustable peddles, the captain chairs are very comfortable. It now has 144,000 miles on it and I have no doubt it will go another 144K. We've had no major issues with it. Also like the composite body panels as we live in the north east and they won't rust. Again good truck

187k miles(!). Smokin deal for babied truck I couldn't pass up. Steering, tranny, engine, brakes = superb. I researched trucks for wks. 2001 F150 is SOLID with awesome reliability. I drove many Chevys and none of them felt as robust as the F150. This is an incredibly well built truck with outstanding ext paint quality, plenty of muscle, & smooth ride. With flowmaster exhaust it roars like a lion. Handling is outstanding for a 9 year old truck. Power steering is perfect touch and feel. Adjustable pedals, compass, outside temp, pwr everything, big center console, incredible leg room in back, etc are all just sauce on a juicy slab of grade A beef. Truly Ford hit a homerun with this model yr
Favorite Features
4 doors, leg room (I am 6'3 and there is plenty of room to spare), 5.4l V8 (vroom), tow power, aesthetics, nicely padded seat with high quality springs and KILLER back support (think Serta mattress--seriously), loads of extras (compartments, lights, compass, temp, etc), etc etc etc
Suggested Improvements
Overall this is a fantastic machine. Hard to criticize it. If you're looking for an older truck to buy cash as we were, this is the one you want: 2001 Lariat 5.4 liter V8 w. off road package. Feel the weight of the doors. Listen to them slam tightly shut. Compare to Chevy. No comparison.
Best I've owned

Review
This is the best truck I've ever owned. Sometimes I wish it wasn't so reliable so I could justify buying something newer. With 115,000 miles it still has the original spark plugs, coils, alternator, shocks, etc, and gets just shy of 18 mpg on the highway. I've never been crazy about the styling (exterior or interior) but it drives well and is very comfortable.
Favorite Features
Reliability, comfort
Suggested Improvements
Needs more interior storage space (larger center console) Stereo is starting to show its age - difficulty adjusting volume. Paint on dash is beginning to fade.

I got my black 01 L about a month ago and I am truly proud of what sits in my drive way. There's nothing else I would take over it, not even a Ferrari because the truck is that good. The speed is very fast and responsive the handing is the same as you would get from a sports car and the comfort from the bucket seats is by far the best I had. Words can't describe how amazing this masterpiece of a truck is. You would have to drive one to see for yourself. The only down side would have to be the winter, it may be a truck but it's got a sports car soul so let's just say the L will play not well with the snow and the gas mileage may be a little hard on your wallet but with 380hp I'm sure you understand.
