Review

i bought my 95 sport extd cab with 219,xxx on it from a good friend of mine who had owned it for 8 years and for its age and miles it is a great truck i have had it for 2 1/2 months and have put 5,000 on her so far and the only problem i have had is the master cylinder just went out oh well it cost me $50 to replace since i have had the truck it has not let me down the 3.9 has pulled everything i have put in it and behind it on my 14 ft double axle trailer has good power and rides pretty good for a small truck although i plan on beefing up the suspension and putting some bigger tires on the 215/75/15 ain't good enough for me

Favorite Features

the full bench seat in the back and storage bins underneath are great runs great on the highway and around town big enough for me the wife and our newborn with enough room inside to still put groceries inside

Suggested Improvements

could get better gas mileage i only get 16 mpg on the hwy and thats it i must say it is a great truck i plan on keeping this truck for a long time to come and would suggest to anybody looking at one to buy it

I got this truck NEW & have always had problems with it. The motor runs good but has no power whatsoever (this is the "MAGNUM" v6 model). Having a towing package on this thing is a waste of money. The thing is slower than slow. A Geo metro 3-banger can outrun this turtle. My 4 cylinder Sentra looks and feels like a race car compared to this truck! But that's the good news. I now have 122,000 miles on it, and I am yet again about to put in another transmission! This will be transmission #7! No, I don't pull trailers. No, I don't go off-roading! No, I don't haul heavy loads! All this truck is used for is to drive to and from work! I baby the heck out of it! What a pc of dog poo!!!

Favorite Features

Well, having 4x4 is nice... downside to that is you need a working transmission to use it! I do love the look of the truck and always have. I like the cabin, other than the overhead light placement. With a V8 Chevy or Ford motor and transmission, this thing would ROCK!!!! As is, it sucks.

Suggested Improvements

Get a better transmission!!! This is JUNK! I have to replace the transmission every 9400 miles (every year and a half at the minimal rate I am driving it). On top of that, get better paint. Improve MPG... I only get 14 MPG with this pc of crap. Biggest improvement: Close down Chrylser!!!

Review

I had bought the truck with 114,600 miles on it, and now have a lil over 153,900. All I had to do with it was replace the battery, and the radiator. Though now it is due for an alignment. Overall though this truck has had the snot worked out of it by me, and the previous owner. It is fitted with the Reese 3/4 hitch so it can manage 7500 lbs though I wouldn't attempt this without making sure yours is properly prepared for it. Mine has built with the tow package and 42rh trans giving it the towing ability. Off road the truck doesn't know the word stuck and has pulled other trucks w/trailers out of soft sand with a/t tires. I'm debating about fixing up this one, or getting another, ill probably fix

Favorite Features

Solid feel, ride quality, performance, off road characteristics, ease of maintenance, I pretty much love the whole truck, and have wanted one similar to this for several years prior

Suggested Improvements

Not really much that can be improved. Most of the things wrong with mine are just due to the age, and the way it was used. Sure the carpet could use a change, and the suspension squeaks, but I'm sure you'd do the same if you worked the same way

Review

I absolutely wish I would have just fixed the minor mechanical issues on my 95 instead of trading it for my 06 which was an expensive rip off compared to my 95. My Dakota had the 3.9L v6 which is by no means a powerful motor but it ran well and it proved reliable. The exterior styling and overall build quality of the 1995 Dakota and the 1992-1996 Dakotas in general to me is better than any of the newer iterations of the Dakota. The interior was plush with options for a 1995, and it actually had a good amount of storage space in it unlike my 2006 which is probably the most useless ext cab ever built. The 1995 Dakota is a good truck, I highly recommend if you are looking for a used truck.

Favorite Features

Styling, handling, interior comfort and design, interior storage space.

Suggested Improvements

A bit more power and refinement out of the 3.9l, better brakes. Other than that nothing else.

Bought used off eBay great price, sight unseen. When picked-up instrument cluster was dead - no speedo, but had cruise. Drove that way from MA to PA & commuted from PHL to BFO for month. Cluster replaced from junkyard - $35. Tot. miles unknown. I've added 50K+. Orig. from NH. Radiator disintegrated last summer. Brakelines rusted out. V-6 w/5spd = outstanding. Uses daily commute, home improvement projects, towing cars and trailers, etc. Heavy, rough use. Great ride. Rear wheelwells, bottom of doors rusting through. AC compressor replaced from eBay. Headliner has now fallen down. Get 19 mpg commuting, 21 mpg w/ popup on highway, 23 mpg w/o trailer w/ tonneau on highway.

Favorite Features

Great seats & interior features. Outstanding Chrysler engineering. Good sound system. Tight handling. It's a truck not a truck wannabe. Driven PHL to RFD twice with springs maxed out & towing a trailer. Never a complaint & got 22 mpg besides. Looking for low mileage 1996 replacement.

Suggested Improvements

Interior accoutrements could be a little more robust. Headliner, window cranks, glove box latch, door lock button. Better rustproofing on underside and especially the bed. More tiedowns in bed. More easily replaceable fuel filter.

Review

I bought this truck used with 150k miles on almost 2 years ago, I am way over 2k now and the only things that I had to replace is the fuel filter and the water pump, plus maintenance. This truck is my baby! I almost didnt get it, but boy, I'm glad I did. I have taken this girl all over the south from Tenn, to N.C to FL to Tx and she's never left me stranded, walking or mad. Best truck I've ever had and I've had plenty!

Favorite Features

The POWER!! 5.2L V8, I can pretty much out run any other car/truck.

Suggested Improvements

The weight, it likes to get sideways in the rain.

I bought this as a lot leftover in 1996. It has 193 thousand miles on it. Never broke down on me. Lots of power and torque. Exterior still shines. Well worth the money. The only thing it has ever had done was oil changes and the condenser replaced, nothing else. Most miles were around town. The only thing hat I don’t like about it is fuel consumption. Interior is built to last forever. This truck will never die

Favorite Features

5.2l v8, 4x4, extended cab, 6ft bed, reliability, lack of maintence work needed

Suggested Improvements

Higher off ground

V6, Auto, Purchased with 120k miles, now just past 200k. I have performed regular maintenance. Good solid truck that I have used to tow, commute, travel, and frequently pull my buddies trucks out of the snow banks/mud. Currently on loan to my sister who has discovered that she likes driving it far more than she ever expected. It is finally starting to show rust (darn it). Replaced since purchase: pitman arm, timing chain, water pump, alternator, heater blower, radio, windshield, brakes, shocks, exhaust, all fluids, plugs, wires, coil, and window motor.

Favorite Features

Size, comfort, easy maintenance

Suggested Improvements

Better fuel economy. I have never gotten better than 13mpg

Review

i've had the truck for about 5 months and I love it.. I never owned a Dodge before. Had a Geo Tracker, but I hauled 2 cars to the salvage yard and a Bronco to the mechanics shop. The v6 has the snoot I want and the power I need. I haven't gotten it stuck in mud yet, but I have pulled other people out of the mud trying to follow me. It does stink on gas mileage though. I get maybe 16mpg in the city, but I don't care. It's fun to drive the hog. If someone wants a nice powerful small pickup, I would say grab life by the horns and get a Dodge.

Favorite Features

For being 2wd, I love the traction it has in the mud.

Suggested Improvements

Put bucket seats into the regular cab instead of the bench seat that hurts your back after an hour of driving.

Review

My husband bought me this truck because my Chrylser finally died. I'm not a fan of little trucks. I'm more into long cars or full sized trucks like the F-150, or a Bonneville. I wasnt that impressed by the looks, but once I got to drive it, I never want to buy another car again. I'm used to being low, but now I can see everything! Also I own horses, so now I can tow them myself instead of paying someone

Favorite Features

The features that I love has to be the body. Straight, flat front end. It's higher up in the bed. I just love this truck

Suggested Improvements

The only thing that I would improve is the gas mileage. For being a V-8, it a gas hog.
