2.5XT Limited

I'm in the process of working out a price on a 2009 2.5XT. The dealership I'm working with has offered me their available 2.5XT with Navigation for $30,145 OTD. They've offered to get me one without Navigation for $28,595 OTD. Both cars include Auto Dimming Mirror, Armrest Extension and Cargo Nets. They told me that those prices include their dealer fee ($395) and SC taxes ($300). For reference, the dealership that has the 2.5XT without Navigation on their lot told me that they wouldn't sell it for less than $28,911 plus taxes and fees. I've been conversing with dealerships in GA, NC and SC over the past few weeks and this is the best deal that I've been able to work out. They're all pushing for a sale before the end of the month but I'm seriously thinking about waiting until the weekend to make my purchase to see what the May rebates look like. Should I go ahead and take one of the available offers or hold out until May? Is $28,595 OTD a pretty good deal on a 2.5XT? I've found this forum to be very useful over the past couple of weeks and am looking forward to joining the Outback family.

Hey Ed, that deal was at Performance Subaru of Chapel Hill, NC. I should also note that no negotiations were done, I simply was checking price ranges. I think with some simple negotiations you could get that price down to 200/mo with the same lease parameters. I was specifically looking at manual legacy's, so they may have been more motivated to get that off their lot since they're not as popular.

dad2be, We live in NW South Carolina. It costs about $150 to fly to Fitzmall if my son drives me to Charlotte, NC. Fitzmall told me that they add $99 to their internet prices as a doc fee. I am inclined to spend up to about $500 above the Fitzmall price to buy the car locally. It will actually be our son's car - he is moving to NE PA in May.
Strategy for Purchasing an Outback 2.5i

2009 Outback 2.5i Model 9DB (automatic) has an invoice price of $22,627 (including destination fee). I am a member of the IMBA so I can use the Subaru VIP program which I understand gives a 2% discount off of invoice plus no additional fees (except tax and title). 2% is about $450 so the dealer should charge me about $22,175. There is a new $2000 cash rebate to the customer. So I should be able to write a check to the dealer for $20,175.(plus TTL) Two questions, do these calculations sound correct? Should I expect the dealer to go more than 2% under invoice? ("The dealer was getting $1,500 cash incentive before Subaru started this $2,000 rebate - per cars101.com so things have changed in the last few days.) Thanks PS - I am located in Upstate South Carolina - I don't see many Subaru's around here unless I drive up to Asheville, NC.
Bought a 2008 Outback 2.5i

I don't know how good of a deal I got, but I like how the car drives and my wife like the color. There is only two dealers in Charlotte, NC, so my choice is rather limited. Here's the price I paid for other's benefit. MSRP 25,660, paid $22925 after the $1000 Rebate. It's about $200 below Invoice, and $2700 below MSRP. Basic 2.5i Automatic with a few convenience options (Auto Dim lights and Rubber Floor mat, etc).

I just placed a deposit with my local dealer, Southern States Subaru in Raleigh NC, for a 2008 7 passenger Limited in Deep Bronze. They are doing a dealer transfer from a dealer who is ~120 miles away. I'll be picking up the vehicle on Friday. MSRP of $35,305, selling price $32,300 and out the door for $33,710 including tax, tag and doc fee. I did the entire deal via email/phone and used the pricing from www.fitzmall.com as a reference for negotiating. I used this same method back in 2001 when I bought my '02 Outback LLBean from them. It was painless, and providing a concrete reference to show what price I can get via a short train ride and drive home really provides a great negotiating point. The Tribeca is going to be a 40th birthday present for my wife. It will be the vehicle that finally allows me to gain possession of my Outback. I drove the Outback for about a week before she declared it as her own, and relegated me to the Honda Odyssey.
