Re: Nissan Quests [imariquinn]
by deltheking on Mon Aug 03 21:17:49 PDT 2009
I have a used 04 Nissan Quest and the reason I bought it was b`cos I got a really good deal.A new Quest is not worth it in my opinion especially compared to the Odyssey or Sienna.Check out CR for the reliability ratings. Once Quests start hitting 30k miles -all problems start..Rotors warp easily, brakes are horrible, numerous electrical and hardware problems and there is a steering wheel shake that is present in a lot of models..Also there are numerous squeaks and rattles--it feels like u are driving a van with 125k miles and not 25k miles. The quality of materials is subpar with lots of cheap plastic and fit and finish is poor. Again CR reflects all these ratings. Folks can check Edmunds forums for the 04+ Quest problems before planning to buy one..Nissan CEO himself accepted that Quest have lots of quality issues. And these depreciate horribly..So a used can be a great bargain. But there are much much better choices out there. Just MHO.
Way too much for a car with no trade in or resale value
by johnnyvegas on Sun Sep 28 14:54:32 PDT 2008
I have never owned a Ford, heck never owned an american car always had Honda/Bmw/Toyota/Lexus. I have driven several though, like a 2001, and 3 Ford Taurus, each I put almost 75000 miles on, a 2006 Impala that I put 97000 and a 2007 Impala that just turned 83000, and a 2007 Pontiac G6 for about 6 months and roughly 20000 when it was totalled. A I get to order a new company car every two years 70000 miles, I get a limited selection. This year was a Ford Fusion, Impala, G6 or Corolla. All are loaded with nice options, not base models, but the Escape was available and it is LOADED! I just ordered and received the 2009 Ford Escape XLT 4WD with V6 and 6 speed trans. It is charcoal gray (They call it black pearl) and has the dark charcoal interior. A co-worker has a 2006 and it was loud, bouncy and gutless. Even with the V6. This new one is MUCH BETTER. Much more impressive. It has nice shifting, smooth power and the suspension seems much improved. I expect it will soften and get crappy as I rack up the miles, but for now, it's nice. I would never own a Ford or Chevy mainly because of the resale value and maintenance costs, compared to imports is sooooo bad, but if you like these, for now it seems a good choice, bad investment. MSRP 28950??? No way. My company paid $19850 delivered. It showed that as invoice, minus corporate (General Electric) Fleet discounts of $1000. We ordered it direct from Ford in June and it arrived 9/12. They closed the plant for 3 weeks from the 4th of July holiday. I have 1020 miles on it in 9 days of driving. It's nice. But NO way do you invest in this loser. I can here the value falling from my living room. Sounds like the A bomb coming down over my head.
Re: Should I buy a used 2004 Quest? [JasonW]
by deltheking on Wed Feb 25 14:34:59 PST 2009
My sincere non biased opinion-- I am both a New `07 Honda Odyssey owner and a used `04 quest owner- I sold the Odyssey with barely 800 miles and I got the `04 Quest for a very good deal[ in a color i like-Gray] after trading in my Ford SUV. Frankly, I bought the Quest b`cos I got a great deal.If I could get the Sienna for that price I would have bought it. If reliability is a factor -- hands down the Sienna.I had the Sienna for a day from Toyota dealer for 1 day.Toyota has rent a car program-- pay about 100 and rent a sienna for 1 day. The Sienna is the most reliable van- it is extremely quiet, great smooth ride and the loaded versions are luxurious.A used one will be a bargain. The Odyssey rides very rough, and the road and wind noises are horrible. And relative to the Sienna it rattles a lot more.At first the steering wheel feels taut and sporty,,but drive it everyday and it hurts.A first test drive with Odyssey is great-- where I made my mistake- but u drive it regularly,it becomes a real chore-- feeling every bump, extremely noisy- it can get very tiring.Drive it on a coarse pavement and it is really terrible. The main purpose of a minivan is practicality, comfort and ride,,not sporty handling or rough ride or road noise. This is where the Odysseys fails miserably. And , a used Odyssey is more costly than Sienna. The Quest is the 3rd choice without any doubt.Unless u are getting a great deal, stick with the Sienna.I have had my used `04 Quest-SL for about 10 days now .It is just OK- minor rattles etc.I hope the reliability keeps up.Plus its tires are expensive. But if u want a very reliable ,safe, affordable ,great comfortable ride plus extra features-- Go with the Sienna. You just can`t go wrong. And as u have indicated- as reliability is a very big factor for u- Your best option is Sienna.Hassle free minivan. Hope this helps--my personal opinion.
To give all an idea whats available

Sorry I was not able to post this earlier, but we did end up finding just the right Quest for us, then took it on a 3000 mile romp. We live in upstate NY, near Rochester, but were unable to find any local dealers willing to deal much as inventories were very low. So while visiting family in Maryland, we began calling around and found a dealer in Preston, MD that groaned but met my price. Here is the deal. 2006 Quest 3.5 SL with Special Edition package, floor mats, micro filter, roof cross bars, extra winter rubber mats Out the door for $23,000. No trade, no financing. I think it was a pretty good deal, he had to trade for one in the right color (red) and he even offered to deliver it to NY, but my wife was so excited she wanted to drive it home. The only things we are still waiting on are: The headphones were not in the vehicle, the dealer says the other dealer must have kept them and he is trying to recoup them... I am not sure if they came with the car if we did not get the DVD, but I am going to let him try. Anyone know for sure? Also, the catalog states the 3.5SL has heated seats (shown in the options matrix) but they are not on the vehicle...The dealer is supposed to be trying to contact his rep to find a solution. Does anyone out there have heated seats with the cloth interior? So far, 3500 miles and we are pretty happy. great room, versatility (we are coming out of a 1998 Villager/Quest), new car feel. The multitude of dash controls are tricky, especially when you are trying to get used to them at 70MPH, but that is what a co-pilot is for. One question for ya'all, we are at our first oil change. I have always done my own, but with a NEW car, I am not so sure it is advisable for the warranty. Any thoughts? Would a jiffy lube type of thing be OK? I shudder at the thought of a $100 dealer oil change, especially when I did not buy it there. If anyone has any insight into either of these option issues or the maintenece thing I would be greatfull.

2007 Quest instrument panel redesigned
by str on Sat Jun 11 20:46:27 PDT 2005
I am a little concerned about the location of the instrument panel on the Quest. It seems dangerous to me. I have been researching any changes Nissan may have in store for the panel and I found an article at www.autonews.com claiming that "Nissan Motor Co. plans to change the controversial instrument panel on the Quest minivan." The redesigned panel is scheduled to debut in 2007, this article also states that Nissan is "not happy with the performance of the Quest" as quoted by Patric Pelata, executive vice president for business planning at Nissan. They say that "in addition to complaints of squeaks and rattles, Pelata said many consumers did not like the instrument panel." They say they are "trying to fix a mistake with the design. The quality issues have been fixed." Does anyone who is currently driving a Quest have a complaint about the instrument panel? Does it's placement bother you when driving? This is the only reason I would decide not to buy one. I will want the redesigned panel when it comes out, it just looks wrong to me the way it is. Maybe leasing one until the redesign comes out and then buying is the way to go for me, I don't know, anyone have a comment?
