de-lurking to say THANK YOU! El Paso EXL $29K out the door...

There is no way we'd have gotten a deal this good without all I learned from all of you. Thank you so much. Pluswhich I don't think I'm ever going to buy a car any other way from here on out. THis was amazingly easy. After reading these posts, I contacted Honda dealers all over the place (I live in southern NM, about an hour from El Paso): EP, Albuquerque, Tucson, even John Elway Honda up in Denver. Not everyone wanted to give me competitive bids, but enough did, and I just bounced the El Paso dealers off one another until we hit bottom. this is the way they worked it out, if I remember right: I dealt w/Rudolph Honda, and their internet mgr. was really nice and straightforward. (I wish I could give out his name on this forum -- really great guy.) $27,662 for the car (incl mudguards, cargo tray, mats, wheel locks -- everything but the cargo tray comes standard, as I understand it) the rest was TTL, destination, etc. (tax is only 3% down here) I should note that these guys actually weren't very forthcoming themselves about offering low prices, but every time I gave them a new number to beat, they did. we also got the 4.9% for 60 months -- which, again, without this forum I'd never have known about. Thanks, everyone.
2006 Pilot AWD EX, price paid in Albuquerque
by rkww on Sat Apr 29 06:47:23 PDT 2006
I actually cut two deals. First over the phone for an AWD LX for $26,200.00 (plus 3% tax). That was the out-the-door-price, and included mudguards and wheel locks. The salesman faxed the specific offer, including VIN #, and I took the fax and a cashiers check and drove 200 miles to the dealer. By gentleman's agreement, my only "out" on the deal was if I didn't like the color. "I" didn't like the color (it's a long story the involves a color blind husband and a color fussy wife). I ended up with a AWD EX with mudguards and wheel locks for $28,000.00 (plus 3% tax) out-the-door. I declined the extended warranty. Because I paid cash, I insisted that as soon as the cashiers check clears, the dealer issue the Certificate Of Origin directly to me. I will save the additional $194.00 dealer transfer fee by personally walking the COO through the Department of Motor Vehicles.

Thats a great price. My experience shopping in Albuquerque NM for an Odyssey EX-L. Garcia $30,345 Perfection $30,226 Credit Union $30,013 Fowler Honda in Oklahoma City $28,499 +ttl Maybe I could have pushed a little lower, but was happy with that. Add my one way ticket ($200 and $60 of gas) I saved 1300 over anyone in Albuquerque. In fact they all told my to just go there and get the car. So I did. Easiest 1300 I've ever made. Thanks Edmunds for the research. Made car buying much easier.

I live in NM and attempting to shop in Phoenix. Dealers in Albuquerque are not moving on price. Best price in Abq is $500.00 over invoice. I can get invoice in Phoenix plus about $300.00 to ship. The other dealer in Abq is quoting $24998 for 05 Accord EXL AT with navi both these prices are significantly more than what I've seen on the posts. I asked for quotes from the Chicago area as well but have yet to find a dealer willing to sell for less than invoice. Where you guys get these prices is beyond me!!
EX-Ls close to invoice in New Mexico

Thanks to this board, we just purchased a EX-L from Borman Honda in Las Cruces, NM for $27,600. We did a lot of shopping in New Mexico; here’s a summary of prices found… Garcia Honda (Albuquerque, NM) – visited in person and were quoted $29,500. They have a “no haggle” program, and aren’t kidding about it – they would not negotiate with any other offer we brought them. Perfection Honda (Albuquerque, NM) – horrible! We were referred to them through the Costco auto program (what a joke -- $500 off MSRP). They wanted to sell me a specific car on their lot with $500 of options I’d never pay for. Said they could “go down” to $30K and wanted me to call my husband so we could “wrap up this deal.” Deal!? I was there, very pregnant and with a toddler, and I walked away as fast as I could. When we came to them with other offers later, they claimed they could go under $28K, but never came through. Much good cop/bad cop drama between the salesperson and sales manager. Tiring. Berger Honda (Clovis, NM) – in phone negotiations, went down to $27,700 (provided in writing) and offered to deliver the car to ABQ for $50. Unfortunately, the salesperson wasn’t very responsive (slow to return calls, etc. until he heard we were going elsewhere) and they didn’t have our first choice color. After waiting on Berger a bit, I emailed a few other dealers in the state with their offer and asked if they could match it: Borman Honda (Las Cruces, NM) – emailed back within an hour offering $27,600 and our first-choice color (Sage Green Pearl). Seemed too good to be true, but they faxed a Purchase Order with the VIN, etc. Wouldn’t take a deposit, but my husband drove down early this morning to pick up the vehicle. Completely clean transaction – no hassles whatsoever. Hanson Honda (Farmington, NM) – emailed back within an hour saying they’d match $27,700 but as of today (4 days later) still hasn’t told me what they have in stock. Roswell Honda (Roswell, NM) -- emailed back saying they couldn’t match the price, and anyone selling at $27,700 must be bluffing. The whole process took about a month. Very pleased with the outcome. Perhaps this info will be useful to those looking for Odysseys in Arizona/Colorado/Texas – if you don’t mind driving!
