2009 Silverado LT (2wd Crew Cab)
by ejones on Thu Oct 22 13:16:02 PDT 2009
Hello everyone, I'm in the process of helping my parents purchase a new 2009 Silverado and I have a couple of questions. First, here is the info about the deal. We already reached an agreement about the price, so I'm providing this info to give everyone a recent data point. 2009 Silverado LT (2wd Crew Cab) Color - Victory Red Options - Interior Plus Package, Exterior Plus Package & Power Plus Package MSRP - $34,870 Dealer Invoice - $32,882.03 Price before rebates - $32,482.03 ($400 under invoice) Rebates - $6500 ($6000 rebate and $500 for waiving the 60 day return) Final Price - $25,982.03 + tax, registration, etc. Location - San Bernardino, CA Now, for my questions: 1. My parents would like a car alarm. I pretty sure the F&I folks will offer to activate one that has already been installed (at least they did for my dad's 04 Silverado). If I remember correctly, they wanted $795 last time. I know aftermarket will be cheaper, but my parents would rather just use the one that's pre-installed. What would be a fair price to pay for the alarm activation? 2. My parents also want an extended warranty. I know GM offers one and we can get it from the F&I folks. My parents will want the best one, which was 5 years, 70k miles last time. What is a fair price to pay for the GM warranty? 3. My dad will also be trading in his 04 Silverado LS. I've gotten quotes from Edmunds, NADA, and KBB. NADA is the highest of the three. I also plan to take the truck to Carmax and get a quote from them as well. I plan to use these quotes to establish an acceptable range for the trade. Anyone have any other advice about how to maximize the trade in price? Thanks in advance for your assistance!
LT1 - How Much I Paid
by athom30599 on Mon Oct 19 11:31:55 PDT 2009
My wife and I just purchased a 2010 Equinox last Saturday. It's a LT1 with the Vehicle Interface Package (i.e. Bluetooth and USB). A couple of things to note: A) I live in SoCal and the Equinox is extremely difficult to find (taking into account your trim, color, and package preference). Most dealerships either have none, or 1 or 2 in stock; and, B) as a result of this supply and demand issue, the dealer where I purchased my vehicle added a "Market Value Adjustment" of $2,995 to the MSRP of $24,600. So the total sticker price was $27,595. I'll have to remember this the next time I see someone complaining about "socialism" ruining their America. Capitalism is alive and well my friends. Anyways, I don't know if anyone has experienced this yet, but it could become more common if the supply doesn't catch up. But because I utilized the Auto Buying Program offered through Costco, I was able to disregard the sticker price. I won't go into too much detail, but: The Costco price of the car was $600 over the "invoice" --> $23,973 (including $745 Dest. fee). Though I was able to utilize the Conquest Cash of $1,000, I got nailed with advertising fees (both national and regional) to the tune of $476. I could only "haggle" half-heartedly over this because both the dealer and I knew that (because of supply and demand), he could eventually sell the car to someone else over the weekend for a higher price than the Costco offer. The car had been unloaded off the truck the night before. If I ever see Howie Long again for the rest of my life, it will be too soon! I declined to take the $500 cash back offer in lieu of the 60-day return policy. The car is for my wife and I wanted to reserve the right to take it back should she want another color (she's gonna learn that black looks nice, but is impossible to keep clean) or option. The Conquest deal should still be available. All in all, I paid $24,332 (before ridiculous CA sales tax, of which I will try to claim a deduction on my income taxes) for the car which is still $300 below MSRP and $3,263 below artificially-inflated dealer mark-up. It's more than what we initially wanted to pay for a car, but both my wife an I really like the new style and options. BTW...the car did, in fact, come with the USB port (as it had been reported that others with the same option package did not) and it is a great option to have. I don't know why the car came with a CD player as the USB port renders it virtually obsolete. Costco really saved me some time and money on this one.
2010 Equinoxee ROCKS !!
by eequinoxee on Mon Oct 05 22:08:53 PDT 2009
I purchased a 2010 Equinox six weeks ago.. The list price was $27,050. I was able to get deductions for my GMCard ($4550), credit union member ($250), ca$h for Clunkers ($4500- 2000 Dodge Durango), and the dealer took off another $500 or so, total deductions from list price was approx $9800. I did all this a day before the clunker program ended, and with the Durango worth about $1,000 (my son modified it, raised the body, huge wheels and tires, off roaded, burnt out the electronics such as radio, defrost, etc.- generally dogged the Durango) I was very eager to finalize deal, plus only a couple Equinoxes avail in DC area by then. I guess I could have gotten a little bit better deal, but not worth the risk of losing clunker cash.. I guess I may have left a few dollars on the table, but with all the deductions I got, I was ready, willing and did the deed. I am very, very happy... if anyone wants a good dealer in DC area, Jack Winegartner Chevrolet in Fort Washington, MD did a great job for me. what a great vehicle..funny, dont know whether to call it a car, wagon, truck, SUV... my Equinox rides great, perfect on a long distance trip, good for around town too. I have the 3.0 engine>> wanted the 4 cyl but there was only one Equinox within 30 miles when I purchased mid August 2009. Moonroof, upgraded stereo system, great seats, the interior colors and design are fantastic. My MPG was approx 24 mpg on the long distance trip, mostly freeways for 600 mi, but the wife drives like a jack rabbit, kept downshifting the 6 speed tranny every time she mashes the gas peddle down (sorry honey, no finesse!!) My around town milage is 21.6 mpg. Not too bad, but I am hoping it improves (only 2k miles). (Comparable in weekly cost to my luxury import car @ 25 mpg w/high test gas). This beats the 12 mpg Dodge Durango (2000) we $-4-clunkered in. Anyone looking to purchase a CR-V, Ford Edge, any Chrysler product, or needing to easily transport up to 5 adults at a time, should test the Equinox. I am very happy with my Equinoxee. Best features for me: 1. Size is perfect. Not too big, not too small. 2. Great job on exterior and interior design. Cabin is very pleasing to my eye with color/layout. 3. Decent gas milage for vehicle this size. 4. Adjustable rear seat with tilt.. very nice. 5. Great ride. I feel very safe, I like all the air bags- hope I dont need them. My complaints in case GM is listening: 1. I like to drive with arm on window sill> uncomfortable for me. The curve of door is too sharp by the window. 2. Radio controls should be in steering wheel. 3. Should have fog lights standard on all trim levels. 4. I hate daytime running lights. 5. I dont like doors auto unlocking when drive placed in Park. 6. I would like master door lock/unlock button on front doors not in center of dash. Thats it. I really like the car, and I am glad I purchased the Equinox, but as with anything, there could be some positive changes. I have not driven my 2005 Mercedes C230 since getting the Equinox !! I really like this ride.

Well, I WAS approved through GMAC for 0% interest at Wondries Chevrolet in Alhambra, CA. I was trying to take advantage of the "cash for clunkers" program. My auto is a 1991 Ford Explorer XLT. So I qualified. I wanted to buy the HHR L2 w/leather package. I was told all was ok...my paperwork was in order (income, registration, insurance, & registration). This took place on Friday 9/21. I had to leave town for Las vegas that evening & would return on Sunday, 9/23. I explained this to them & asked if I needed to be there it to sign any documents in order for the cash for clunkers paperwork to go thru, they told me no, despite them not having the car in stock, however, they went on the internet & located an available one at another dealer. They told me they called that dealer & the car would b there for sure by Monday. We were to finish the financing paperwork at that time. I asked them if my being away would b a problem, they said no because they did not have the HHR in their possesion at that time anyway. They had my cell #, I asked them to call if they needed to speak w/me about anything. I was about only 3-4 hrs driving distance away. I did not hear from them over the weekend, so I assumed all was fine. I returned to calif Sunday evening & called them Monday morning, they told me all was ok, they would get the car that day, all they had to do was release a check to the other dealer. Well, since the clunker cars would b junked, I went to the store I had the radio I bought installed for my Ford & had it removed. Within 1 minute after that took place, I get a call from Wondies Chevrolet, saying they COULD NOT get the car, that it had been sold by the dealer that promised it to them. (Chevrolet dealer in Glendale, CA) When earlier, they told me that the car was available at that dealership! I then drove to Wondries. They proceeded to tell me all kinds of reasons why they did not get the car, & now it was just not available. However, there was no consistency in what they were telling me, so I thought they were just lies. They never took responsibility & blamed it on the other dealership. I was also told that they needed the HHR to b in their dealership so the VIN # of the HHR could b submitted in the cash for clunkers paperwork. Now, remember, I had asked them about the paperwork needed for this on Friday. They also told me that Wondries had stopped the cash for clunkers deal on Sunday evening. I was never contacted by phone & told anything of this, I learned it when i went to them on Monday, 9/24. Suffice to say, I was not able to get the car. I was so upset & felt so violated. Did not think I would b able get the car as the program was ending & some other dealerships ended it the night before. Now, the cash for clunkers deal is off & I still have my Ford clunker. In addition an inqury or 2 on my Credit Report and no new car!

Hey if your in Socal, beware of Connell Chevy in Costa Mesa, CA. I had a bad experiance with this snakes, they will exploit the hard-to-find issue with the Equinox right now and play games, stall, etc. They suck. I went to two different dealers in Socal and got met with the same attitude..."oh you want an Equinox huh..good luck, your going to pay top dollar EVEN if you can find one" I got my LS 4 cyl. from MK Smith in Chino (only dealer who had closest specs to what I wanted) and we made the deal in one morning. Great to work with and got a great price. I'm tempted to go to these slime bag dealers who treated me like crap and show them the mistake they made. And these tranny problems....none to be seen in ours. 300 miles on her, 2 weeks old and still overly impressed by the vehicle. LOVE it
Just purchased a LS

Spent a week trying to get 2 different dealerships to make any effort at all in selling the 2010 Equinox to me, these 2 dealerships SUCK: Connell Chevy in Costa Mesa, CA and Wesloh Chevy in Carlsbad, CA. No follow-up, arrogance and just plain lazy! Lies lies lies...caught these guys trying to play mind games and quote mis-information. Sent in a request to MK Smith Chevy in Chino, CA and the next day we drove home in our LS. Great service and great price, got top dollar for my trade in too. Paid $21542 (before conquest and trade in) for an LS with added floor mats. $-1000 conquest and got MUCH more for my trade than I was offered at Connell. We originally wanted an LT1 4 Cyclinder but none were to be found in color or engine we wanted. We checked out the LS and were very impressed with how nice it came equipped and the price, drove it around and walked out with it an hour later. Very impressive vehicle, would never have considered a Chevy before but we fell in love with this right away.
