The Chevy's overall package is quite functional and the retro styling is appealing. Too bad the HHR falls short in the driving department. The HHR was last tested in 2006.

Steering, handling and brakes are unimpressive. Engine performance is below average, though the SS trim offers some improvement.

The HHR is not as roomy up front as the competition, with below-par seats. Ride comfort is good.

It can hold a lot of cargo, with many configuration options. The main controls are simply configured and easy to use,and there are many useful features. Center console-mounted window switches are questionable.

If you like the retro styling look, this one works well. The interior materials and quality could be better.
